Terrorism is the new 'birds and the bees' talk of the 21st century, another sensitive fact of life that kids must learn about to become resilient and stay safe. Lions and Tigers and Terrorists, Oh My! is the first book about terrorism for kids.
It is written by a psychiatrist, Carole Lieberman, M. D., who is internationally renowned as 'The Terrorist Therapist'. The first half of the book empowers parents and teachers to help children understand the news that bombards them, without making them feel scared. It also helps grownups recognize and respond to kids' feelings, and includes 88 ways to raise happy, healthy children in a time of terror. The second half of the book is a picture book for kids that gives them a gentle introduction to terrorism and answers their most pressing questions, such as, "What is a terrorist?" and "Why do they want to hurt us?" It is interactive - giving kids opportunities to express their feelings and 10 things they can do to become stronger and stay safe from a terrorist. Lions and Tigers and Terrorists, Oh My! is recommended by leading terrorism experts, top educators and kids, themselves.
Editorial Reviews
"Dr. Carole's new book makes a significant contribution to the field of literature dealing with the aftermath of horror that visited our nation on 9/11... by helping teachers and families better educate children about the realities of our world. More importantly... it allows children to read for themselves how to cope with growing up in a time of terror.... Must reading for anyone who comes in contact with children." Harvey Kushner, Ph. D., Director, Homeland Security and Terrorism Institute, L. I. U. and best-selling author of the Encyclopedia of Terrorism
"The guidance you offer parents and teachers in helping youngsters deal with terrorism is solid, sound, and relevant in today's world." Sharon Rohowsky, Ed. D. Educator, DoDDS-Europe (Department of Defense Dependents Schools)
"This is the first book of its kind to address the highly sensitive issue of terrorism for kids. Free of the trappings of religion and politics, reading this book with your child will put both of you on better footing to navigate this important issue." Mubin Shaikh, Profiled in best-selling autobiography Undercover Jihadi: Muslim extremist turned International Counterterrorism Expert
