History is inescapable, and Jacquelyn "Jaycie" Brooks is continually haunted by that truth. Although some of the darkness of her past has been alleviated by the resurfacing of an old friend, she is still held captive by the consequences of her mother's sins. Together with Gabe, the boy from her childhood harboring his own trauma, Jaycie is forced to confront the horrors of her former self. Family may tie people together, but its bonds, as Jaycie and Gabe have discovered, cannot withstand everything. Intent on moving forward and embracing the future, Jaycie will have to face the source of her pain and choose whether to keep or sever the last connection to her old life.
