Forgotten Legacy
Momoh Sekou Dudu
Set mostly in the interior of the fictional African nation of Airebil, Forgotten Legacy is knitted around myths, age-old traditions, and intrigue with the supernatural. The novel traces the life of Janguba, a lad whose lineage is haunted by ill-fate. When his brother dies in a tragic accident and both his parents succumb to a virulent pestilence while in forced exile, Janguba is suddenly orphaned. In spite of his troubles, Janguba grows up into a respectable young adult who seems destined for greatness. But just then, ill-fate strikes again: on a hunting trip, he accidentally shoots a man and his nation's corrupt government pounces to make a harsh example of him to keep its interior subjects in line. In the end, not even a decade in prison keeps Janguba down. He beats the odds yet again and reclaims a lasting legacy challenging a few entrenched cultural norms along the way.
