Many tales of the old west were forthright and obvious. But here is a story that does not match the roughshod heroes and dainty damsels. Set high in the Colorado Rockies around the historic town of Silverton, this tale documents the conditions and the intensity of the time when mining was king. Everything in the town was there because of mining. But there is the backstory. Chinese workers from the railroad construction were followed in their wake by others whose agenda was far from railroad construction. Miners had all kinds of dreams but all seemed centered on the strike it rich formula. A bachelor sheriff is set to make the town civilized. But his goal is upset completely by the appearance of a quiet girl with long dark brown hair. He sets out to learn more about her, and gradually pieces of her life are shared with him. He finds that he is very fond of her. But she even says she is not what she seems. Enjoy this tale, a universal theme but with a twist, as the west is opened again for a new look at life on the rugged frontier.
