Arab Israel War 1973
Kashmala Ahmed
Israel and Arabs have fought a number of full scale wars besides their involvement in endless border skirmishes and mil incidents. Israelis evolved a mil system based on flexibility, use of surprise and innovation. A rigid approach and over dependence on high commander has no place in Israeli forces. On the opposing side the Arab troops though proved to be effective in defence, were incapable of adapting themselves to rapidly changing environments of the battle. The Israelis operating on interior lines of communication took full advantage of this sit, switching their forces from one front to another and developing attacks against Arab forces. 2. The Arab - Israel war of 1967 resulted in Arab defeat. Though Israel did achieve a mil victory in 1967, it failed to crush the Arab's will to fight, a phenomenon so imp in the art of warfare. The 1967 war, besides humiliation, had also left many lessons for Arabs. It brought a change in their thinking and approaches. Strategies were made and available means were worked out. In Oct 1973 the Arabs proved their mettle by overcoming the most formidable Barlev Line. The war is also remembered for its intensity, deception, cost in men and material, a testing gr for modern techs, and the role played by Super Powers.
