Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYONA Rim-to-River Time Machine(260 pages 8 X 11 format) This factual and comprehensive text takes the reader on a virtual interpretative jaunt along the South Rim's Grand Canyon Village sector. Essentially, the famed Trail of Time excursion along the South Rim, starting from Yaki Point (located near the Yavapai Geology Museum), headed west toward the El Tovar Hotel (approximately 2-miles). This handy guidebook coveys all aspects of the canyon: geology, natural and human history, including six addenda on the relevant subject matter (i.e., facts about the Colorado Plateau, a lexicon of geologic terms, and recommended things to do and places to see in the village). The segmented narrative benchmark begins at 270 million years and ends at the 1.8 billion year benchmark. Along the way, the text disseminates key information and insights highlighting geologic periods, as well as introducing life forms that initially spawned in primal oceans and seas, and later the emerging terrestrial life forms. As for the subtitle of the book, the Rim-to-River Time Machine text represents a demotic style of writing that changes the academics of geoscience, natural and human history into casual parlance. This informative and factual text feigns a guided tour in progress and is presented in a literary style that enlightens readers while explaining all the essentials details without sermonizing. The Grand Canyon's Time Machine also entails traveling back in time from the rim to the inner canyon gorge where the Colorado River courses through the canyon. Thus, so-called "deep time" marking some two billion years, which includes ancient material deposits laid down long before the river carved its way through this sector of what would one day be known as the State of Arizona. In time, erosion set in and fabricated the Grand Canyon's singular sculptured features. The subject matter of this text relates to specific topics of the discussion presented at select vistas from the interpretative text from start to finish. These select vistas also break up the information and no subject is discussed at length, or, to the point, the reader is overwhelmed. Ergo, the subject matter is segmented (i.e., from the basics to the more entailed). Given the text's piecemeal presentation of information, GRAND CANYON: A Rim-to-Rim Time Machine is a factual and easy to read book that engages and enlightens readers. While there are scores of published works written about the Grand Canyon, the text I wrote and published engenders a novel approach to learning all the essentials of the Grand Canyon's process of creation. The interpretive account of what there is to see and know beyond the scenery has also been exhaustively researched for accuracy, using a National Park Service heuristic teaching standard and based on an interpretive explanation.
