Currents - Ricepaper Magazine Books

Currents is a selection of short stories, poetry, and nonfiction reflecting the magazine's collective experience as members of the Asian diaspora and settlers of Canada. Returning to their roots as a print publication, this eclectic anthology of works by Asian / Canadian writers celebrates Ricepaper Magazine's first year as a digital magazine. Over twenty years ago, the Asian Canadian Writers' Workshop started publishing Ricepaper, the only Canadian literary magazine for both emerging and established Asian writers and artists. What began as a simple newsletter went on to showcase the works of prolific creative individuals such as Joy Kogawa, Wayson Choy, David Suzuki, Rita Wong, and even Madeleine Thien, the 2016 Giller Prize winner for her novel Do Not Say We Have Nothing. When Ricepaper first began, its content was mainly focused on the experience of marginalized Asian communities in Canada. Ricepaper still publishes with this mandate, but as time progressed, it evolved along with their readership to become a forum for creative works, interviews, profiles and reviews of more contemporary Asian communities.
