English summary: Politics and war are listed as "classical" leadership functions of the members of the Roman senatorial nobility, who nevertheless also occupied variety of roles. The changes in these roles (or their relative weight) from the late Republic to the Empire has, in recent years, taken center stage in modern research. Thus, not only the traditionally "prominent" or "career" positions brought into the focus of this study, but the contributors also systematically and in detail analyze the themes of criteria, competence, education and socialization, rhetorical capabilities, legal expertise as well as the development of an entirely new aristocratic characteristics and life strategies.
German description: Politik und Krieg gelten als, klassische' Fuehrungsfunktionen der Angehorigen des romischen Senatsadels - der jedoch auch darueber hinaus eine Vielfalt an Rollen einnahm. Der Wandel dieser Rollen bzw. ihrer relativen Gewichtung von der (spaten) Republik zur Kaiserzeit ist in den letzten Jahren in den Mittelpunkt der modernen Forschung gerueckt. Im Blickpunkt dieses Bandes stehen daher nicht nur die traditionellen, Prominenzrollen' bzw., Karrierefelder'. Ebenso thematisieren die Beitrager auch Kriterien und Kompetenzen wie Erziehung und Sozialisation, rhetorische Fahigkeiten und juristische Expertise sowie die Entwicklung ganz neuer aristokratischer Distinktionsmerkmale und Lebensentwuerfe, die jeweils systematisch und detailliert analysiert werden.
