A Clash of Civilizations or a Clash of Interests?: an Analysis Based on the Book the Clash of Civilization and the Remarking of World Order" by Samuel P. Huntington"
Mate Tozser
The book Clash of Civilizations and the Remarking of World Order" by Samuel P. Huntington has been constantly alluded and queried since it was first published in 1996. S. P. Huntington states that people's cultural and religious identity will be the primary source of conflict in the post-Cold War world. The questions that S. P. Huntington's 'clash thesis' raises are current and have gained widespread attention after the 9/11 terror attack. But they cannot be simply answered. This research book was designed to explore two hypotheses regarding the 'clash thesis' 9/11 and the Islamic world. According to the first hypothesis in the contemporary world there is no such thing as the clash of civilizations but we can rather experience the clash of interests. The second hypothesis suggests that we cannot talk about the 9/11 attacks as the result of the clash of civilizations since it was an intracivilizational provocation of Islamic fundamentalists within the Muslim world. The analysis should help to understand 'the clash thesis' from an other aspect. It should be useful for those who like looking into the background of statements before accepting them. "
