Re-tooling and re-skilling of educators in multi-grade schools: by NF Litshani Re-tooling and re-skilling of educators in multi-grade schools is an in-service work that targets to empower multi-grade educators to teach effectively in their classes. Multi-grade educators in both farm and sparsely populated rural areas work with more than one curriculum grade at the same time. This context demands them to be provided with tools and skills to meet the demands of the situation. That is, to be able to re-organise the national curriculum to suit all learners of two or more grades taught at the same time, classroom organisation, layout and classroom management. This demands educators organise teaching plans, time-tables and assessment tasks to benefit this diversity such that all learners have access to quality education. This is catered for through unique teaching and learning strategies relevant for a multi-grade context like peer tutoring, self-directed learning, learning area staggering method, flexi option and e.t.c. This work is hoped to assist education authorities to manage multi-grade education effectively.
