Demetalation of Metallocorroles: New Routes Have Finally Opened

Although the chemistry of corroles has grown spectacularly in recent years, the field has been marred by the lack of convenient protocols for demetalation of metallocorroles. The difficulty of demetalation constricted the development of the corrole synthetic chemistry. This book describes a general demetalation procedure for metallocorroles. Demetalation reactions are short and vary between 2 min-2 h for each specific metallocorrole. The yields are high and vary between 74%-85%. In addition to its practicality, the method is quite general. Both electron-rich and electron-deficient corroles can reliably be demetalated. This is the first example of general corrole demetalation procedure. By this method, highly promising synthetic paths for corroles have finally been opened. This was a dream in almost half century of corrole chemistry.
