Inadequate attention to urban land-use planning and practices coupled with rapid urbanisation has resulted in the proliferation of informal settlements which is destroying the health, beauty and convenience of cities. This book examines the development of informal settlements in Kumasi, the second city of Ghana. It was discovered that multiplicity of factors underpins the growth of informal settlements in Kumasi with socio-economic factors been predominant. The findings of this book is of great importance to town planning professionals, local governments, city authorities and all individuals into urban and regional studies because it will help them to become abreast with the emerging trend and dynamics of informal settlements in the context of Africa. In addition to this, it will also help to broaden one's knowledge to theoretically and empirically address the development of informal settlements in urban areas.
