Vol. 5. Living Conditions Among People with Disabilities in Mozambique: a National Representative and Comparative Household Survey Among Individuals with Disabilities in Mozambique
Yusman Kamaleri
The National, representative study on living conditions among people with disabilities in Mocambique is the result of an international cooperation between Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD), Federation of People with Disabilities in Mozambique (FAMOD), Central Statistical Office (INE) in Mozambique, Norwegian Federation of Organisations of Disabled People (FFO), ADEMO (Association of the Physically Disabled in Mozambique), and SINTEF. Organisations of people with disabilities and individuals with disabilities played a key role during design development and data collection. The survey comprises a study on living conditions among individuals and households with/without disabilities/disabled members, disability screening, disability related questions, and core concepts from the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Results from this study demonstrated a systematic pattern in that individuals with disabilities and households with disabled members reported lower level of living on a number of indicators. Furthermore, the study demonstrated serious gaps in basic services for disabled people.
