Tanzania's State Policy of Rural Transformation Through Education: Tanzania's Political Context and Its Influence on Educational Policies

Shorttitle Implication for Teacher's Workload After independence political leadership was optimistic that development could be born out of the educational enterprise. They viewed literacy as a symbol of modernity and that mass expectations can be satisfied more easily in the educational sphere than in many others. With few resources at hand, Tanzanian government effected its post-independence educational policy by relying heavily on the primary school teachers. This book undertakes to establish thelink between the efforts of primary school teachers in the community with that of Tanzania's dependent situation in an international context. This dependency, led to an alliance between the bureaucratic class in Tanzania and international capital; leading to contradictions in the implementation of educational programs which teachers were expected to execute.
