T?ku Haerenga - a Transformation of M?ori Cloaks: Combining Traditional M?ori Materials with Western Weaving Techniques
Roka Ngarimu-cameron
M?ori art is a vibrant and dynamic part of the M?ori people that has undergone huge transformations since European arrival to New Zealand. They brought with them new materials and techniques that M?ori quickly adopted and developed to put a unique spin on the world of M?ori art. This book describes two new innovations to M?ori weaving never seen before. Firstly, the combination of the European technique of loom weaving using traditional M?ori weaving materials in the creation of a collection of unique cloaks. Secondly, the use of computer-aided loom weaving to produce the traditional t?niko (finger weaving) style of adornment.
