English Spelling and Sound: the Relationship Between Spelling and Sounds in English
Ali Akbar Khansir
There is no suspect that English Language has words which are sometimes spelt quite differently from the way they are pronounced. Sometimes one sound is represented by one single letter consistently and sometimes one sound is represented by more than one letter and also sometimes more than one sound represent only one letter. This book aims at highlighting the relationship between sounds and spellings in English so that the learners of English as a second/foreign language may be guided to solve their problems effectively. In addition, in English, there is no one to one correspondence between spelling and sound because of such a mismatch between spelling and sound a learner of English language finds it difficult to pronounce a new word encountered in his/her reading; he/she cannot decide how to spell a new word heard by him/her.
