In 1907, at the age of 33, Winston Churchill decided to undertake a trip to East Africa during the autumn holidays. The long journey made him use means of transportation as diverse as steam boat, train, car and even a long way by foot. The trip takes him to visit different cities: Mombasa, Nairobi Embo, Kampala, Munyonyo, Cairo; to live with tribes such as the Kikuyu, Swahilis, Lumbwa, Nandi and Kavirondo; hunt antelopes and rhinos. Profuse in descriptions of the landscape, the political situation of the region and reflections on the role of the white man in the continent, these chronicles are a valuable document of the European colonial past, as well as a testimony of the origins of contemporary African nations.
