The Italian Servite Friar David Maria Turoldo (22 November 1916 - 6 February 1992), was a religious poet, a psalmist and one of the most representative exponents of the renewal of Catholicism in the second half of the 20th century. He was a prophetic voice in the Italian Church, at the service of the attention of the Council, the ecumenical journey, the commitment to peace, justice, the defense and liberation of the poor and oppressed. His political and social commitment was also characterised by a profound humanity that led him not to hate but to seek a decisive and sometimes harsh, but always dialectical, confrontation of ideas, never staying in such environments because he was aware that his life was at the service of the Word (and of Silence), in the Christian sense but also as a poet invested with an artistic vocation. "to be in the world without being of the world" - "to be in the system without being of the system".
