The presence of relatives during resuscitations in emergency rooms

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is one of the most stressful situations in clinical practice. This affects not only certified nurses, but also the patients and their family members. The presence of family members is a topic that has been discussed for several decades. However, there is little regulation on this. Caregivers expressed an increase in stress levels and fear of legal consequences. They described that the resuscitation situation could be traumatizing, shocking, and cause physical discomfort for family members. As a benefitfor the family members was stated by the study participants, that the processing of the situation is facilitated and that a termination of resuscitation is more understandable. For implementation in clinical practice, according to the interviewees, teams would have to bebe enlarged so that one caregiver could be responsible only for the care of the family members
