All that remains of the Earth and Planets Confederation's Third Battle Group is five battle-damaged ships. They arrive unannounced at Becket's World asking to be rescued from the superior alien force that is still pursuing them. Their unexpected arrival brings a sudden and unwelcome end to ten years of peace on Becket's World. A world that after the Alpha's deadly attack ten years before, has learned with the help of alien technology to defend itself.

Now they must fight not only to defend the remains of the Battle Group but also Becket's World itself. The resulting battle marks the beginning of a dangerous chain of events. That will after two perilous encounters lead the members of the Couren's United Planets Defence Force, to a world controlled by a sadistic dictator. And there, in the ruins of a city where women are less than second class citizens they must fight not only to survive but to overthrow a dictator.
