He has studied Kenpo Karate, Kang Duk Won Korean Karate, Kwon Bup American Karate, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Aikido, Ton Toi Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, Fut Ga Southern Shaolin Kung Fu, Pa Kua Chang, Tai Chi Chuan, various weapons. A prolific writer, Al wrote for such magazines as Black Belt, Inside Kung Fu, Inside Karate. He had his own column (Case Histories) in Inside Karate.
