Pardon Not

The book is the translation of the novel, titled "Kashama Nei" by Nakul Mallik; it may be considered a historical novel narrating the notorious Marichjhampi Massacre that was done by the Communist Government of West Bengal, India, in 1979. The Bengali refugees who had come from East Pakistan and were sent to various unfriendly places in India were invited by the communist leaders to come to West Bengal; so, they came and settled down in an island named 'Marichjhampi' in the Sunderban region and established a new civilization there without any aid from the Government; rather they were making fisheries and cottage industries, and promised to help the Government earn foreign currency by exporting fish. But the Communist Government took an 180 degree turn and evicted them in a brutal manner. Thousands of people including women and children were killed and the corpses were dropped into mud and/or thrown into jungle so that they might be eaten up by wild animals. Incidents of rape, conflagration, barricading the supply of food and drinking water, medicines etc. were held by the police and some party cadres and bouncers. Even the charitable organizations like Missionary of Charity, Bharat Sevasram Sangha were not allowed to go there. Almost all of the people who became the victims belonged to Namasudra, a Dalit community. So the novel may be considered as a piece of Dalit literature as well as partition literature.
