Amazing Adventures of Femoo

'Embellished with witty Yoruba proverbs, spiced sumptuously with amazing folktales, and written in the thrilling mode of magic realism, ...... brims with wistful memories of childhood sports and schoolboy antics and jokes; and portrays a gorgeous array of charming characters. It allegorizes Nigeria's turbulent history of ethnic strife, economic depredation, and political shenanigans; compares communal rural life with desolate city life;... Leaves all insoluble contradictions, mind-boggling confusions, and perplexing conundrums on God's doorstep. Nevertheless, the author hands out hope to Nigerians. The book is a pearl.'Prof. Segun Adekoya, OAU, English dept, Ile- Ife.

"He displayed wisdom and skill in articulating the critical societal and religious issues of our times as perceived through the childhood and adulthood of Femoo. Larry Femi Obisakin takes the reader through the deep affairs of an established community rich in history, culture and educational opportunities... I recommend this exciting masterpiece to homes, libraries and other institutions because it is, educative, historical, informative, spiritual, and also entertaining". Dr. Laraba Clara Alfa, mni

, ."The book, The Amazing Adventures Of Femoo or On the Wings of Time, is of great inspiration to our youths. The life and times of young Femoo clearly shows that, no matter your social background, with hard work, determination and above all with God, nothing shall be impossible for you to achieve"Pastor Mrs. Paulette Ukpomwa (Retired English Teacher and School Principal)"The Amazing Adventures Of Femoo or On the Wings of Time by Larry Femi Obisakin, ... is a twice-told story. On the one hand, it tells the life story of the author and, on the other, narrates obliquely the chequered story of Nigeria's political economy.... cast in the mould of magic realism. Each anecdote closes with an axiom or proverb that encapsulates its moral. Obisakin's novelistic art is best approached as an extension of his pastoral ministry. The greatest talent displayed in the book is the author's uncanny ability to remember in detail events of the remotest past. Next comes his sincerity.... make reading the autobiography a journey back into one's life. Another area in which the author excels is the masterful deployment of Yoruba proverbs and idiomatic expressions. The book contains valuable information on proper grooming, preparing for interviews, making a success of marriage, good professional conduct, and attaining one's goal in life. A symbolic fable, the author's dream or vision of the Difa gorillas reads like a dark allegory on power play on the political chessboard of Nigeria.... the author hands out hope to Nigerians. The book is a pearl". Prof. Segun Adekoya, OAU, English dept, Ile- Ife.

'The language and diction are here and there simplistic, obviously in a bid to recall a childhood past from the perspectives of an unaffected, unsophisticated mind of a kid barely getting to know and interpret events around him. Take the example of the opening paragraphs: they hardly indicate the story is going to be biography (or a hagio- as some term it). And it works: the episode of uncle Jojo and the falls and pig mud and the sort would naturally provoke interest in what is to come. Of course, at times, one or two phrases, paragraphs or even words betray the erudition and higher standard of the writer. This is especially visible in the later chapters where Femoo has moved out of the lowly, largely village setting.
... As should be expected in all works by Obisakin, copious doses of African, nay, Ife wise-sayings abound. eg: If you cannot access the throne (of Oba) you can at least accept eba meal. This is a play on words really - ?ba/?ba - but bearing much meaning: Make do with what is offered you! Another is the very philosophical statement that palm wine bought on credit will intoxicate its buyer three tim
