Praise For SORROW TOWN: Selected Stories-Speculative fiction is Wright's strength-exhibited in the horrific "Pink Snails," "Burt and the Christmas Tree" (one of my favorites), "Elder Care," in which "Mark sticks his mother Mary in a kennel," "Laws of Attraction," and "Ring Finger." "At the Coffeehouse" is a resonating piece painted with just the right words, nearly crossing the borderline of poetry."Cuisine d'Espirit" is good strong storytelling, chasing the downward spiral of a reckless love affair. In "Toy Soldiers," Wright vividly expresses the narrator's pain. "Under the Strudel Roof" has a bitter undertone that cuts like a knife, and in "The Hormone Doc's Parking Lot," "Women prepare to become ghosts, their albums destined for landfill." This is beautiful writing. -Dawn Lowe, BRILLIANT FLASH FICTION This collection includes gonzo journalism, flash fiction, creative nonfiction, horror, erotica, and slipstream. Check out the indoor Christmas tree that avoids giving up the ghost and grows roots. Don't miss the ghost Olga who appears in the sauna and the strange tale of the Vista Inn. The award-winning creative nonfiction pieces focus on the true story adventures of the writer's Hawaiian grandmother and teenage Hansen's Disease patients forced to live at the Kalaupapa Colony on Moloka'i. Reoccurring characters help unify the book. This title would a great primer for would-be writers because it offers a multi-genre overview of literature. -Kirby Michael Wright, MFA
