Summary Of The First Half

Summary Of The First Half is an album of pieces for solo piano by Canadian composer Ian Ring, curated from the years 1998 to 2015. During this period Ian created dozens of large and small scale works for solo piano (and other instrumentation), but had never published any; his work existed in a sloppily stored collection of cassette tapes, scraps of manuscript, computer printouts and poor quality recordings. Realizing that most of his early works were poorly documented, badly archived or lost entirely, in 2015 Ian undertook a massive effort to find and digitize recordings, rescue old compositions from obsolete floppy disks, and re-engrave old compositions for posterity. Of those, eight were deemed high enough quality, and adequately playable, to compile into this album. Difficulty of this collection is in a range that should be comfortable for an intermediate student. If you are able to perform a Chopin Nocturne, then these pieces won't give you much trouble. Maximum hand span is one octave.
