Tour of Combins

Tour of Combins is a 6 days closed loop from hut to hut around the massif of Grand Combin, an extensive glaciated area including several peaks, three of them four-thousanders, located between Switzerland and Italy. Easily accessible, well marked and maintained and not involving walking on glaciers or exposed areas, this is an excellent option for a first multi day hiking trip in the Alps. Less known and less crowded but in no way less impressive than mainstream routes, Tour of Combins crosses one of the highest suspension bridges in Europe, climbs the inner tunnels of a dam structure and takes the hiker close to glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and numerous breathtaking points around Grand Combin. For hikers interested in a longer route, this trek can be directly combined with Tour of Great Dams or Haute Route while plenty of other routes can be found a few kilometres away. This guide includes a detailed description of every stage, times, altitude profiles and information such as transports, necessary material, accomodation, useful links, interesting places not far from the tour and many advices and tips to help planify and succeed in this adventure in the Alps.
