Love on the Bayou
Destiny
In 19th century Louisiana, a small-town girl chases her dream of becoming a designer and boutique owner. Leaving her family and everything else behind, she becomes the first black dress shop owner in New Orleans. A racially motivated incident makes a devastating blow to all she's built in such short amount of time. While seeking help, she runs into James, a handsome, well-bred lawyer that is instantly smitten with her. Devin believes she's much too busy building a successful business to be entangled with a love interest, especially a white Frenchman. As a former Civil War soldier, he's an attorney with access to some of the most powerful families in the city. As Devin increases her business expertise, James stays on the sidelines hoping she'll change her mind. Once Devin finds some interest in the public service lawyer, she finds out that her family has already found a fiancé from her hometown for her and she must marry him immediately. To wed him, she would have to leave everything, including James behind. However, once James' mother gets word that her son may have fallen in love with a woman of color, she takes matters into her own hands as well. Caught between running a boutique in segregated New Orleans, being the heartbeat of a French gentleman and the target of the affections for a man she's never met, her life falls into disarray. Will true love or her parental expectations triumph? Only time will tell if there will be Love on the Bayou.
