The Jazz Pianist

A story that mimics the structure of a jazz symphony, where, just as in life, events appear unplanned and in uncontrollable environments. Can they ever reach a resolve or is the resolve outside the chain of events? This is a play set in a semi-dystopian future. Imagine a world, three decades from today, where our fear driven habits, remain unchanged! What will the the psyche of a human being become? How will they deal with constant surveillance, isolation, economic depression and a severe lack of hope? Will faith find a resort to stay alive in the mind, or will it be completely converted to an instrument of control? In this story, we follow the dissonance in the minds of the characters as they try to find harmony in an unfavourable environment. The story unfolds, as Josh, who lives a mediocre life with his mother, is hired for a secretive job. He is told that his employer is the CIA. However, he soon discovers with the help of his colleagues, Axel and Dan, that the employer might not be who they thought. First, his childhood friend, Martha, goes missing after he informs her who he is working for. Then, other mysterious events follow as he digs deeper into the nature of his work. His mind quickly approaches a breakdown. Grace, his mother has made it through hard times in her life with the help of her faith, and hence, she still holds strong to it. She is a compassionate lady, who invites Josh's friends into their lives and tries to provide and preach love. She hopes for a better future for the younger generations. We follow their journey as they alternate between gaining and losing hope, in search of a meaningful resolve to their lives. Will hope ever find them?
