Set in the late 1980's, Brentwood Small is a 37 year old divorced man with two small children and a much younger girlfriend Kitty. Brent is a likeable guy and appears easy going and unbothered by the pressures of life. But, for all Brents likability, he is the source of an enduring frustration for all those closest to him. Brent has an Avoidant Personality Disorder which results in behaviours that creates even greater calamities than necessary. The story tracks back to Brentwood Small's early childhood and what begins an enduring pattern of avoiding and escapism as a way of coping. This book is the 3rd in the series 'Curious Minds' that has a 'fly on the wall' look at what happens inside the therapy room. Through therapy, we come to know how Brent interprets his world and why he is compelled to repeat unhelpful behaviours. Psychotherapist Dr. Bernard Pembroke, engages with Brent in his own unique way, challenging distortions and illuminating the truth in pursuit of liberating him from a tormenting life of escapism.
