Sublieutenant Edward Baker has failed his promotion exam three years running. Fourth time might be the charm, but his new command is two centuries old and a few decades overdue for scrapping. With the help of his wise Chief Engineer and his trusty XO they embark on a simple mission - escort an early warning satellite past Jupiter orbit.
