Pain to Poetry
Carmen Almaraz
To capture one's emotions in a traditional poem or a song; anger, joy, sorrow, etc., would seem to be impossible within the limitations that come from having to rhyme each line with another. But in the multitude of words, I find there always to be at least one perfect word that sounds like another, that can indeed bring the intended depth and meaning to one's songs and/or poetry. Originally, it was my intention to publish my poetry, but then I came up with the concept of writing a short memoir for each, to give you, the reader, some insight as to what inspired each of these six poems. That was a much better idea. Not only was this task an ideal form of self-reflection, it allowed me to revisit the past, the past that gave and will continue to give me strength to endure my future.
