While most crimes related to open houses have been petty, there are some severe and unfortunately, deadly ones. In 2020, a California female agent was assaulted and sustained severe injuries. Alen Karaboghosian was caught on camera and later arrested. Stanley Keller was also arrested for sexually assaulting an agent at an open house in 2020. In June 2020, a Colorado agent was hit with a blunt object, while hosting an open house. Dustin Holdren was arrested and charged. In 2019 a female realtor was sexually assaulted while hosting an open house in Canada.2014, saw one of the most horrific assaults related to an open house. An agent was carjacked as she left an open house taken to an abandoned location where she was repeatedly sexually assaulted. The incident ended when the criminals, while fleeing from police, crashed into a mother and her three children, killing all of them on impact. The men were later sentenced to life in prison. These are just a handful of incidents that have occurred. I am sure there are thousands of more stories like these all over the world. While open houses are a great way to market homes and find new clients, they are also very dangerous and a criminal's toy store. It's for these reasons why I wrote this book. To remind you that you can never take anything for granted. There is no 100% safe person or neighborhood. Crime can happen anywhere and to anyone.
