A King to Die: Adventures in the Palaeolithic - Adventures in the Paleolithic

The fourth story in the series ADVENTURES IN THE PALEOLITHIC, is a story based on real events: A KING TO DIE. In some villages of Mesopotamia, several millennia before Christ, there was the custom of sacrificing the king, who was responsible for epidemics, lack of food, a flood or some eventual military defeat. A certain monarch had the brilliant idea of renouncing the throne, placing in its place a foreigner, to be sacrificed to the gods. After the ceremony, and with the gods satisfied, the king would regain the throne. The unexpected outcome of the story also corresponds to another important historical fact.
