Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, and a seemingly self-destructive and divided world, the scales of racial injustice were forcibly removed from its collective eyes. One heinous act of violence became the catalyst for worldwide protests against systemic racism, and police brutality, as for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, on May 25, 2020, mobile video technology bore the burden of history, documenting the slow, tortuous murder of George Floyd, in front of a crowd, at the hands of the Minneapolis, Minnesota Police. Author, Poet, and Spoken Word Artist, Nefarious J. Dorsey, knows well the pain and frustration of being a Black male in America - a moving target. He has birthed a collection of poems that are representative of the ever-increasing, almost daily threat to the survival of African-Americans, at the hands of those who are duty bound to "protect and serve". Each page, each penned breath, leaves common space for his kindred, who share such tainted space, to scream, and to grieve; to unify, and to demand immediate change. It offers perspective for those on the periphery; a hopeful call-to-action, for those who can no longer look, but not see.
