The Merciful Road is a book about growing up in the early 20th century, and how the influence of the times affected the life of Maeve, who was the daughter of a man who was determined to have his own way in all things. Maeve inherited his way of thinking in many ways. It affected her decisions and the lives of her children, whose lives spanned the 20th and the 21st centuries. It tells how the chain of abuse can be broken.
