EF-6 Sam Peterson leaves the safety of his office cubical in Duluth Minnesota to join a renowned storm-chasing crew in Oklahoma. He perfects his new trade as the driver for the team while they capture, on film, several tornadoes and the damage they leave behind. He learns of new state-of-the-art software that can accurately predict the weather out to 90 days in advance. The crew discovers this software is predicting a major weather event in late July. It forecasts that this could be the dangerous storm the planet has ever experienced. His team joins with another crew and two famous documentary filmmakers and prepares for what will likely be the most frightening chase of their lives. The National Weather Bureau issues the storm warning, and the chase is on. They soon find themselves forced to deal with large flying debris that is tossed out miles from the vortex. Straight-line winds that could quickly flip their vehicles into a death roll. After several hours they learn they must find shelter. The U. S. Government is going to bomb the storm with its biggest nuclear warheads in an attempt to stop a catastrophic failure of Earth's atmosphere.
