The Psalms of Trach Mom is a memoir of a mother of a micro-preemie baby who survived to celebrate her first birthday. Transitioning from a law clerk to a full-time trach nurse and leaving behind the office to spend her time in medical facilities was not something this immigrant mother ever expected. With the ever-increasing number of tube-dependent lives in NICUs, ICUs and PICUs across the world, this transition is sadly becoming more commonplace for others as they, too, strive to adapt to the challenges these situations bring. This work, written in honor of her daughter, Annabel Hooker, is intended to raise awareness and provide support for trach babies, trach moms and all families who share their lives with these precious, medically-fragile children. Life presented her with a situation she never could have foreseen, and in so doing, she was made to realize that courage is not something someone can create by arranging all the affairs of life in such a way to keep problems from reaching us. Instead, it sometimes requires the presence of these problem to understand what courage truly means and how to grow in it.
