Propinquity
Gumdrop Tobias
This is the story of a blossoming adolescent born into tragic circumstances that are not wholly unique to people in life. Far too many suffer and have suffered worse devastation to apply any self-importance to his own misfortune. His surviving, grief-stricken parent carries on despite adversity but is compromised by emotional pain too great to meet all of his needs. He begins to seek out guidance, morality, spirituality and a sense of belonging from unconventionally random strangers in the beach town where he lives in 1971. His journey reveals a simple path of life experiences in search of kindness, truth and self-sacrifice in a world filled with pain and hardship. He seeks atonement but he's too unsophisticated to understand it. The best he can manage is something resembling propinquity.
