In this book are gathered dozens of humorous articles published in newspapers from the end of the 19th century (first publication 1895) which, despite their age, are still very pleasant to read. We realize that Alphonse Allais with his captain Cap and all his ridiculous or crazy characters had been an extraordinary precursor. It already announced the whole line of absurd authors, Dadaism, surrealism and even iconoclastic humor that will flourish in the twentieth century. As he was also a journalist, he kept an enlightened eye on the society of his time and knew better than anyone how to ridicule the faults of his contemporaries. The texts are all very short, usually one to three pages, very incisive and often in the form of hard-hitting and hilarious dialogues with puns, hard-hitting formulas of dazzling brilliance.
