Youthful columnist Polly Burton gets into the propensity for having her lunch at the bistro after her first experience with an offensive elderly person who, meanwhile fanatically making hitches in a messy piece of string he conveys, twists her ear, Ancient Mariner-style, with his stories. In his occasion the stories aren't of ocean journeys and the heavenly yet of strange homicides. Toward the finish of every one of the dozen stories here he discloses to Polly his own answer of the case - one that he hasn't tried passing on to the cops, on the grounds that for the elderly person the entire satisfaction is a scholarly one: he has no specific interest in seeing equity done.
