The Zone of Interest
One of the most unflinching films in years about World War II. Academy Award winner for Best International Feature Film 2024.
Jonathan Glazer is not a particularly prolific director, but when he makes a film, it's always a deeply original work of art. "The Zone Of Interest" is no exception, one of the most critically acclaimed and harrowing film experiences of the year. World War II has been the setting of many films, but none with such an inventive approach as Glazer presents. A family drama with the horrors of Auschwitz as an invisible but audible backdrop.
The film follows Commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig as they try to build their dream life for their family in a beautiful house with a garden, located right next to the most terrifying concentration camp in history. In one of the leading roles as Hedwig is German star Sandra Hüller, who previously made a name for herself in the critically acclaimed comedy drama "Toni Erdman" and who, in addition to "The Zone of Interest", has also impressed this year as the lead actress in the five-time Academy Award-nominated and Palme d'Or-winning film "Anatomy of a Fall".
