1976-1987 was a period that saw Neil Young at his most versatile and radically genre experimenting. Classic folk, rock and country are all represented, but so is his short-lived experiment with electronic music on the synth record ‘Trans’, which was heavily criticised at the time but has since found its audience and is celebrated today for its daring and genuine qualities as a synthpop album.
