Jazz In The New Harmonic
David Chesky
Inspired by Gunther Schuller's improvisatory convergence of classical music and jazz, David Chesky's 'Jazz in the New Harmonic' brings a new perspective to Schuller's idea of Third Stream. A phenomenal lineup joins Chesky on piano: Javon Jackson on tenor saxophone, Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, Peter Washington on bass and Billy Drummond on drums.
David Chesky composed all the songs on 'Jazz in the New Harmonic', which explore his own personal take on bridging the worlds of jazz and classical music. Chesky's recording is a striking manifesto that deals with dissonance and rhythm on equal footing, "I wanted to take the harmonic language of the twenty-first century and make it groove", he says of his bold new direction in jazz.
Personnel: David Chesky (piano), Javon Jackson (tenor saxophone), Jermey Pelt (trumpet), Peter Washington (bass), Billy Drummond (drums)
