First Flight

The Nightvision album - 'First Flight' is one of the best sounding recordings out there. Every effort was made to make the sound as live and as big, as possible. We even found a 1960's Hammond organ and leslie speaker to use on the tracks.(which is another story itself). The Yamaha birch drum kit is from the 1970's, big and solid. The energy of classic rock is here to enjoy, and the better the system you play it on, the BIGGER the sound. Many audiophiles like to use the Nightvision album to test their systems for performance. Try it yourself, see what what your system can handle, from bass notes at 30hz to the high hz of crash cymbals. The artists involved are as follows: Jeff Boyne - Guitars, vocals, production, engineer, writer I was born in Russell Manitoba. It wasn't until I was 12 years old that, I realized the whole world doesn't have WINTERS LIKE THIS! It was during one of those long cold winters that I stood in front of the stage at the Airways Community Center in Winnipeg and heard Chad Allen and The Expressions with Randy Bachman on guitar. That was it. I knew from that moment on, that although I liked playing hockey, my body shape and size were better designed for Rock and Roll. I went on to join the Crosstown Bus in Nelson BC, and signed a contract with Bruce Allen Talent Promotion. Bruce was a huge influence on our band. He knew which songs worked and eventually he got us a record deal with MCA Canada. David Foster, Robbie King, Tom Northcott, Bruce Fairburn and many others who taught us alot about song writing and recording. Then I met Sean Sheppard in 1985 and we started a writing duo that continues to this day. We both love the influencce of Jazz on Rock. The group TOTO mixed the 2 genres perfectly and are still an influence on us today. Equipment: I use 2 different amps with a Lehle switch that allows me to use 1 or both amps together. I love my SOLDANO Hot Rod 50 for warm tube distortion. The PEAVEY Stereo Chorus from 1983 gives a very cranky, edgey Rock sound. I use a ROLAND tape delay with the Soldano for effect and a VOX wah with both amps. Guitars: Larrivee electric 1985 Gibson ES 335 Paul Reed Smith - Custom 24 Godin Multiac Nylon with Genz Benz acoustic amp Sean Sheppard - Keyboards, vocals, production, writer I grew up in the lower mainland and must have had music in my genes. I began playing the piano and mandolin at age three....and I'm told that by age five, I was composing music. (We don't have any of my early work in our set list.........yet). My advanced training took place at the Columbia Academy where I studied as a Professional Recording Engineer, and spent a year studying voice with Taylor Fox. Over time I have had additional musical influences impact my playing: David Benoit, Fourplay, Sting, Dave Koz, Lee Ritnour, Melvin Davis, among others.
