Ulrich Drechsler
The clarinetist and composer Ulrich Drechsler has created the exciting soundtrack to an imaginary film for his album 'Caramel' and the ensemble of the same name. Sounds of great passion and haunting energy have been made with which he consciously avoids any categorisation. On Caramel he processes in a touching way the
influences from jazz, neoclassicism, minimalism and film music, which have influenced him most in the past years. Seemingly effortlessly, he moves between the different genres in order to merge them into something completely new and unheard of.
Ulrich Drechsler's compositions are brought to life with enthusiasm by the musicians on Caramel. Özlem Bulut's radiant coloratura soprano floats above the room-filling, intense interplay of Oliver Steger's double bass, Raphael Keuschnigg's drums and Amir Ahmadi's virtuoso piano lines. In addition, the highly talented slam poet Yasmin Hafedh, who tells haunting recitatives on some titles. In between, above, including Ulrich Drechsler's bass clarinet.
