Suite Serenity

SUITE SERENITY by Ken Jones "Beautifully and wonderfully relaxing" is a phrase spoken often by those who have enjoyed the peacefully tranquil sounds of Ken's latest CD, Suite Serenity. He aptly describes the songs as "Relaxing Instrumentals for the Busy Giver." This CD has found a welcomed listen in homes, libraries, classrooms, MP3 players, and on the road, giving to the listeners a soothing audiosphere of serenity. The tracks on this CD were all written and recorded during summer vacation days at his favorite coastline town, beautiful Crescent Beach, Florida, which is the beach of his childhood and youth while growing up in nearby Palatka, Florida. (He has another CD, Crescent Blue, that is named in honor of this same beach that includes four other songs written in that setting.) Each song is special to it's creator, yet one song on this CD is especially "sentimental." While the other songs have a more contemporary easy-listening flavor, the song Sentimental Jernigan, could be categorized as a relaxing slow-dance song similar to the Big Band era. Ken did not set out to write a song of that nature, but, as songwriting often goes, the final version may not be as envisioned initially. Such was the case with this song. When it became apparent that this song was different from the rest, yet still quite tranquil, Ken decided that this song would be an appropriate one with which to honor musical maestro and his friend of the last 24 years, Wallace Jernigan, a young-hearted 74-year-old "Renaissance Man." Having partnered musically in many local venues with Wallace playing the saxophone or clarinet in church and around the community, Ken knew that one of Wallace's very favorite songs was Sentimental Journey. Soon the similarity in sound between Wallace's favorite song and his last name became apparent to Ken, and the choice was made for the song's Wallace-honoring title of Sentimental Jernigan. Ken is married to Beth Hagood Jones (formerly of Ocala, FL) and they are enjoying parenting their 8-year-old adopted son, Joshua. Beth is the Health Department Nurse-Manager. Ken is an educator, having taught 6th grade and 4th grade for 23 years, and now in the role of Media Specialist for the Clinch County Primary / Elementary Schools in Homerville, GA. Ken is also a Music Minister (and a former Youth Minister) at First Baptist Church, Homerville, where he has been since 1984. He credits his involvement in his home church in Palatka, FL while growing up for instilling his love of music and providing a solid foundation in musical training.
