Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1682-1765) was a highly successful French composer of instrumental and vocal music. He was the first independent composer without patron, and published his own works, which made him extremely wealthy. He was a refined gentleman, a typical 18th century Man of the World, and he wrote the pleasing, entertaining music that his public were so fond of.
