Stand Beside Me in the Sun
Mark Nevin
2011 solo album from the guitarist and songwriter best known for his work with Fairground Attraction and Morrissey. His first new collection of material since 2002's the Mighty Dove. Stand Beside Me in the Sun sees him honing his distinctively British narrative style with perhaps his most personal work to date. With guest musicians including Calum MacColl, Kirsty's half brother, the entire album is composed by Nevin solo apart from 'A Ghost of Summer Past,' which has backing vocals by Sarah Blackwood from Dubstar and was written with Simon Kirke, the drummer of Free and Bad Company fame. It's an album full of personal moments, from reminiscing about seeing his future wife Louise on her Suzuki Savage on 'The Girl on the Motorbike' to sitting in a pub watching football with the Muswell Hillbilly himself on 'I Know Where Ray Davies Lives' (which he then performed at Highgate Festival with Ray himself smiling away in the audience).
