Le Corbeau
Le Corbeau is the brainchild of Oystein Sandsdalen, former guitarist of the Norwegian band Serana Maneesh. Since his self titled debut album in 2008, Le Corbeau has expanded to a frequently rotating collective of Oslo based indie musicians. Their indie-noir rock 'n roll sound bows to the vestiges of Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth's early years, Nick Cave's cloudy episodes and David Lynchian aesthetics. It's a mix of super-fuzzy pop-tracks, spooky garage rock, shoegaze atmospheres, creepy and hypnotic loops, impressionistic songs, occult lamentations, mystic poems, drony instrumentals, cult cinematic influences and lo-fi enthusiasm. With Sandsdalen's dark voice and approach, utter gloom is all around Le Corbeau's music, but the addition of dreamy female vocals and fuzzy guitar riffs also leads to a very laid-back and cool sound. Le Corbeau took a break after the third album (from 2011), but is now back with not only their new fourth album, but with a trilogy; 3 albums at once: "IV - Spider Bridge", "V - C's Theme" and "VI - Sun Creeps Up The Wall"! It contains extremely captivating and memorable stuff; "IV" is very unpolished, punky and noisy, "V" sounds very alive and lo-fi and "VI" can be described as their indie pop album with experimental though more lavished songs.
