Decoy
Miles Davis
'Decoy' is a 1983 recording featuring keyboardist Robert Irving III and guitarist John Scofield contributing most of the compositions and the other solos. Miles in somewhat of a transition just coming out of retirement a few years earlier. Hints of his urban jazz tendencies that would follow in 'You're Under Arrest' are evident. Good supporting from especially the rhythm section, the Rolling Stones tour bassist Daryll "The Munch" Jones on bass and Al Foster on the drums. Excellent soprano work from Branford Marsalis too. This album defines a whole new approach to improvisation. As usual, Miles is the ultimate combination of the listener the and creative genius.
